Sandbox

***'I grew up in the Middle East and went back to Philippines for college' is a facebook group I recently joined. I'm not sure if that's the exact name, though. So there... Compressed in that group name is, practically, my life, and a portion of my answer to anyone who will ask me on where and how I got this picture.

I spent Christmas with my parents in Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia. Since my dad's too busy and uninterested to drive me and my mom to certain places, I was not able to make the most out of my Nikon. So... before my flight back to the Philippines, I decided to have a last-minute shoot. First, in an abandoned building (pictured above) beside a vacant lot few blocks from our apartment. The afternoon sun was perfect so I used the usual 1/125 and f/5.6 as guide before bracketing.

Although there are a lot of beautiful buildings or places under the Arabian sun, you should know that the place is not as fancy or glamorous as some people think it is. It is quite a lonely place with a lot of restrictions (if the basis is our culture). I once mentioned to a friend this absurd thought I have of an OFW Paradigm (or three things that gets them by): TFC, Jesus, and Money Transfer.

**Old building in front of our apartment.

****Main door inside our apartment (Used a tripod and a little cropping with this one.)

****The Jacket I bought in the Philippines with keffiyeh(?) print (usually worn as a headdress by Arabs)

***** My two best shots for the finale.

Malanding pusa sa Luneta No. 3

***Among the other shots I had in Luneta, this is probably the most spontaneous. So spontaneous that I had no time adjusting the shutter speed and aperture. So the original photo is a little dark. Since my professor in photography class made me realize that editing more than cropping is a sin, especially Photoshop editing, I never edited any of my shots for more than a month. Until I saw how I accidentally and beautifully framed this stray cat (pictured above). I enhanced the picture with the D-lighting feature in my Nikon D80.

Malanding pusa sa Luneta No. 2

***For months now, and even right after shooting this, I've been having this idea of inserting a bottle of beer right there in the cat's paw since the cat looks kind of drunk. I guess this thought will just likely be added into my long list of things I want to do. You know, when you're young and busy with education, specifically making a reviewer for my first exam in media law and apparently having the urgency to blog out of boredome, you tend to want to do many things and end up doing nothing much.
